Microsoft Excel - Trouble Viewing all Your Sheets in a Workbook

Have you ever had an Excel workbook with multiple sheets, and you can’t see all the sheets because you either have too many sheets or the sheet names are too long?

Unfortunately, you get to the point where you can no longer see all the tabs in one view. You can use the built-in tabs navigation buttons, but there is another way as well.

Right-click the tabs navigation buttons and a floating list of all the worksheets in the workbook will appear. This is especially useful when sheet names are too long, or there are a lot of sheets.

Two keyboard shortcuts that can move you between worksheets are:

CTRL+PageUp take you to the previous sheet in your workbook.

CTRL+PageDown move to the next sheet.

Microsoft Word 2003 & 2007 – Paste Unformatted Text

When you copy and paste text from a Web page or another document, the text brings it’s formatting into your document. To get around that behavior, copy the text and place the insertion point marker where you want to insert the copy. Then, choose Paste Special, and select the Unformatted Text option. Now the text will be inputted into your document with none of the formatting from the original source.

Featured Entrepreneur on the American Family Business Accelerator Web Site

Check it out! We're on the front page. http://amfambusinessaccelerator.com/ The article is recognizing Your Computer Lady for last year's Step It Up! Award.

This year's Business Accelerator program kicks off in Phoenix on May 6th. I'll be there!  I encourage all of my small business clients and friends to participate. It's great information. While most of the sessions are online and even recorded so you can listen on your schedule, this year they are adding some small group meetings. I'll be leading a group that will meet at the Small Business Development Center. It's an opportunity to share ideas, get feedback and meet other small business people. Watch the Business Accelerator site for more details or contact me!

PowerPoint Presentations– What Font Size & Style Should I Use?

Avoid Fancy Fonts! Choose a font that is simple and easy to read such as Arial, Times New Roman or Verdana. Avoid script type fonts as they are hard to read on screen. Use, at most, two different fonts – perhaps one for headings and another for content. Keep all fonts large enough (at least 24 pt and preferably 30 pt) so that people at the back of the room will be able to easily read what is on the screen. If the room you are presenting in is very large you might need to increase the font size.

Remember to consider where you presentation will take place. Light color fonts on a dark background are often easier to read in a very dark room. Dark color fonts on light backgrounds, on the other hand, work better in rooms with some light.

When creating your slides, choose font colors, styles and a font size that will make it easy for your audience to read what is on the screen, no matter where they are seated.

Microsoft Excel 2003 & 2007 – All CAPS to Proper Format

Have you ever received an Excel file and all the text is in CAPS? You can change the text so that it is in “Proper Format” with this simple tip.

For example: How would you change YOUR COMPUTER LADY to read Your Computer Lady?

If you have YOUR COMPUTER LADY in cell A1, then in any cell within the worksheet type =PROPER (A1).   It will automatically change YOUR COMPUTER LADY to Your Computer Lady in the cell that you typed the “Proper” formula.

Try it! It works great.

Microsoft Word 2003 & 2007 - Quickly Generate Text

If you are trying out a new Word template and need to quickly stick a few paragraphs of test text in it, Word will generate text for you with this simple formula.

Type =rand(8,10) and press enter and Microsoft Word will automatically generate text that can be used to test page formatting, fonts, etc.

The numbers can be changed to fit what you need. In our example, the 8 represents 8 paragraphs. The 10 represents 10 sentences within a paragraph. You can adjust the numbers any way you want to get the results that you need.

SEO Work for Camelot Concrete

Camelot Concrete had a well designed site but it had never been optimized for search engine indexers. Your Computer Lady used Camelot's keyword list to do basic SEO work. We wrote Page Titles, Page Descriptions and specific keyword lists for each page of the site. We utilized Alt Tags on all of the graphics to increase the number of keywords used on each page.

Basic SEO work should be done on every site to assist search engines as they index a web site. The basic work must be done before any further SEO work is undertaken.

Commercial Door Manufacturing Web Site

As a new company, Commercial Door Manufacturing needs a web site that can grow with the company. The site must serve as the hub for all of their marketing efforts. Your Computer Lady provided the site design and implementation for the new site. To showcase their products, we created a simple FLASH or animated element at the top of the page. Visit the CDM site.

YCL also assisted in the creation of CDM's technical literature. See a sample cut sheet.

DAS Products

As a distributor for national roofing materials manufacturers, DAS Products needed a site to build their own corporate identity while promoting their manufacturers. They needed to take advantage of the wealth of information provided by the manufacturers about the products. Your Computer Lady assisted with the design and implementation of the very first site in 2001. In the years since, YCL has worked with DAS to update and expand the site as their company has grown. Visit the DAS Products site.

Hollow Metal Xpress Web Site

Hollow Metal Xpress wanted to create a web site that would provide a wealth of information to their clients. Hollow metal doors and frames may sound simple but there are a lot of variations, calculations and considerations in choosing the right product. HMX wanted to be the "go to" resource for their clients. Their site was designed with simple navigation to get the visitor to the information they wanted within a maximum of two clicks. The site was kept simple design-wise as many in the construction industry are still new to online research. The site was designed to expand easily as HMX added new products and information.

Hollow Metal Xpress uses the site as the hub of action in coordination with their email marketing campaign. PDF files or other documents described in the newsletters are stored first on the site. Thus each newsletter builds site traffic.
